Homelink a horrible pain.Tokyo Dome Corporation (part of the DKB Group)Ĭapacity: 1,240,000 m 3 (43.8 million cubic feet) So yeah, CIPA mirror = Awesome and pretty easy to install. Though I am afraid to touch the B pillar w/side airbags in it.

I may drop the entire thing and do it right and install cargo hooks at the same time. I've been moderately pressing the buttons and its holding, but I feel over time, or a little too hard of a push that its gonna come apart. I got the homelink in there, but I still really dont like the fit. I stole power and ground from the CIPA mirror wires.

So FYI put on latex gloves, those helped. Midway through I realized my hands were itching and felt like they had splinters in them, like the feeling you get barehandling insulation. Did I mention the headliner sucks? Its like its fiber glass, but its not. (Thank god somebody on here wrote and had pictures about the sunvisor screw covers.) This allowed the headliner to drop just enough in the front that I could get my arm in there.Ī few hours of using a razor, a knife, and scissor, mostly by feel - I had a hole and had pulled what was FINALLY enough from the backside of the headliner to get the homelink unit to make a connnection with the buttons and cover between the headliner. Removed both A pillars and the sun visors. Since my X doesnt have the hole for map lights and the ability to get a hand in there, i had to start dropping parts.

Where the additional 6 hour trial by headliner comes in was for the homelink install. I have a hella super tone horn mounted in that location and attached the temp sensor to that bracket. I choose to run mine out the same grommet listed in the how to, under the air box (which required removal), over the horn wiring, and out just in front of the radiator behind the grill. The extra time on the mirror install comes from running the temp sensor. Power is from the Green/White ignition wire (mentioned on page 3 of the howto) and there is an easy grounding point in the A pillar. Using the how to, its pretty easy to run the wires under the headliner and down the A pillar. It also dims quickly to a nice tint (not green) and the map lights are bright. The mirror has a larger rear view than my previous stock one, so that's a plus. The CIPA mirror has a green display, but its unasuming and doesnt look out of place in the amber lighted X. In hindsight after dealing with the homelink headliner install I would have ponied up the extra coin for a Gentex that had everything in it. The CIPA mirror is a great little mirror and a good cheaper alternative to the Gentex. which means no easy access hole in the headliner!!Īnyway. It was installing freakin homelink on an X trim Xterra with no map lights. The mirror is easy! I would have had that done in an hour and a half - going my usual slow pace. Granted I'm really paticular about zip tieing wires, carefully removing trim, eating, etc. I started this project at 6:30PM last night and finished at 2:30am. It was a serious PITA!! The headliner on the Xterra is an evil evil peice. So I just installed these parts last night.

I'm pretty excited for this mod and wanted to share in case anyone else was in the same boat. I'll have more info and a review at that time. Actually gonna drop the entire headliner and add the missing ceiling hooks that the X doesnt have at the same time.

Grab a universal homelink adapter from Ebay for $25! įor under $200 you've got the full Gentrex setup, plus those pesky map lights you've been missing. So now you've got almost all the features of the high end Gentex mirror BUT no Homelink. Typically they are $160, which STILL is a great price.

I picked mine up off of Amazon (as a warehouse deal) for $135. Thier top of the line model has Autodim, temp, compass, and map lights.
02 NISSAN MAP DOME COMPASS DISPLAY UPGRADE
So in my research to fix this I decided to not only add map lights, but upgrade a bunch of other features at the same time.ĬIPA makes a great alternative to the Gentex rearview mirror and is much cheaper. Why Nissan skimmed on some of the most basic (and probably cheap) features is beyond me. If you too have a base X you feel my pain. Figured I'd throw this up here to help others out.
